Welcome to Hengelo: A placid Dutch city close to the German border. Characterized by cosmopolitan people and a picturesque landscape, Hengelo is home to TenCate Geosynthetics’ high-tech woven geotextiles.

Once upon a time

A catastrophic flood in 1953 launched the quest for innovative product development since the urge was high to find solutions to strengthen dikes and prevent further flood damage: the origin of TenCate Geosynthetics’ woven geotextiles. The company as it exists today was founded in 1968 but the first woven products were already delivered many years before.

Specially developed synthetic fabrics used for flood protection are still produced in Hengelo today. Over the decades, TenCate Geosynthetics extended their product portfolio to include a wide variety of customer-specific ultra-high-performance materials. The production plant in Hengelo offers an almost infinite number of customized solutions that are tailored to the customers’ specific needs and requirements. The following brands are based in Hengelo: TenCate Geolon®, TenCate Geotube® and TenCate Nicolon®.

Geotextiles and Mushrooms?

TenCate Geosynthetics’ product portfolio in Hengelo is incredibly diverse. It is hard to imagine but the teams in Hengelo do not only manufacture geotextiles for critical civil engineering applications. They also produce the industrial fabrics used for growing the mushrooms on your pizza! This stark contrast reflects the high-tech textiles’ broad range of possible uses that go way beyond civil engineering and mushrooms.

Our high-tech textiles are
extremely versatile. We are constantly striving to develop our products further and push the limits for our customers.

Herald Hagedoorn, Plant Manager Hengelo
