With the help of TenCate Geosynthetics, a cost-efficient solution with reduced CO2 emissions was found for a traffic interchange in the Netherlands. The retaining wall, built with TenCate Miragrid® GX, blends in well with the surroundings.

CO2 emissions reduced, technical design optimized

In a challenging road construction project in the Netherlands, a flat road junction near Emmen-West was to be rebuilt with new connecting roads, upgrading it to a traffic hub. The province of Drenthe, in its capacity as the client, sought an improved and safe traffic flow without a traffic circle or traffic light intersection. In addition, the solution was to blend in as well as possible with the landscape. TenCate Geosynthetics delivered a cost-efficient and CO2 emission-saving solution.

By using TenCate Miragrid® GX geogrid, we were able to help optimize the design and achieve a cost-saving solution with reduced CO2 emissions.

Stably reinforced retaining wall with TenCate Miragrid® GX

In a project team with the client, the contractor and an engineering firm, TenCate Geosynthetics collaborated on the creation and implementation of an optimized technical design within a very short period of time. Instead of the heavy protective walls and steel sheet piles originally planned, a newly constructed retaining wall with integrated TenCate Miragrid® GX geogrid serves as the basis for the bridge structure and blends in well with the surroundings.

Economical design through optimum force transmission

TenCate Miragrid® GX geogrids are made of high-tenacity polyester yarns, and their combination of high tensile strength and low creep makes them ideal for reinforcing retaining walls. When integrated into block wall systems, the flexible yet stable geogrids bond to the wall through friction. Optimum force transmission ensures an economical design.

Complex road intersection completed ahead of schedule

The individual construction phases of the complex road structure were ideally planned with the help of a 3D Revit model, so that the project was completed within the budget and even ahead of schedule. The holistic approach also included minimizing the environmental impact of the entire project.
